Baylor College of Medicine
Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) Syndrome Study

Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas are conducting research on Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) Syndrome and are recruiting children and adults with this condition and their close relatives. WPW is caused by abnormal electrical pathways in the heart. Individuals with this condition may experience symptoms ranging from mild palpitations to fainting and, rarely life-threatening heart rhythms. The cause of sporadic WPW is mostly unknown. The researchers believe that changes in certain genes may be associated with this form of arrhythmia. The purpose of this study is to help identify genes that are associated with WPW syndrome. Participants will be required to provide a blood sample at the time of enrollment, and brief medical history and family history for heart diseases/arrhythmia will be obtained. The blood samples will be used to compare the genes in the affected individuals with their close relatives. We hope that this study will help us in understanding the genetic basis of WPW syndrome.
